Three Times Tempted
(Mark Barker)
After Jesus fasted forty days the devil to him
said
If you are the Son of God then turn these stones to bread
Jesus looked at Satan and He looked back at the stone
And said that it is written, “Man can’t live by bread alone”
After that the devil took him to the Temple’s
peak
And this time Satan quoted scripture when he choose to speak
“If you are the Son of God, then throw your body down
And the angels surely will catch you before you hit the ground”
1st Chorus:
Satan comes on like a friend but he’ll stab
you in the back
And when he knows your guard is down is when he will attack
The Lord was tired and hungry and He needed food and rest
But Jesus rebuked Lucifer, “Don’t put me to the test”
Jesus rebuked Lucifer, “Don’t put me to the test”
Finally on a mountain top the devil tried once
more
He showed all of earth’s kingdoms in their splendor to the Lord
He said, “All this I’ll give to you if you’ll only agree
To forget about your mission and bow down and worship me"
2nd Chorus:
Three times the devil tempted him and three
times Satan failed
And though the Lord was three times tempted Heaven would prevail
“Worship the Lord Thy God and serve Him only”, Christ would say
“Get Thee behind me Satan”, then the Lord sent him away
“Get Thee behind me Satan”, then the devil went away
