Matthew’s Song
(Mark Barker)
When you were born I
cut the cord
And then I paused to thank the Lord
For giving me a healthy son
A perfect bouncing baby boy
Mommy and Daddy’s pride and joy
You surely were the precious one
Those first two years sped by so fast
I barely blinked and they had passed
But how the memories do linger
And you know how the story goes
You always kept us on our toes
And had me wrapped around your finger
And when the day was done and it was time to go to bed
We’d say our prayers and tuck you in
And kiss your punkin head
Soon you were learning how to read
And you were growing like a weed
Just six years old going on seven
Quite a handful I won’t deny
The apple of your daddy’s eye
A blessed gift sent down from heaven
One day you’ll grow up and be gone
And you’ll be out there on your own
And we ‘ll no longer be beside you
Just know that Jesus is your friend
And you can always count on Him
You know He’s always there to guide you
And if you’re ever feeling like your back’s against the
wall
Just remember you can phone us, we’re there waiting for your call |
